Neon Valentines By Tracey Emin Take Over New York's Times Square.

Not only does this public art installation in New York's Times Square add some colorful romance to the city, but by snapping a pic of yourself amongst it and sharing it, you get a chance to win a digital limited edition by Tracey Emin, and that's something to set one's heart a-flutter.

The installation, "I Promise To Love You"

s[edition], the online platform for the world’s most renowned contemporary artists to sell their digital limited editions, brings celebrated British artist Tracey Emin to Times Square throughout February.

“Every year I send valentines. This year I won’t have to. Times Square will do it for me,” said Tracey Emin. The title is her promise to love NYC, as well as individual promises to love one another.

The artwork, a dazzling visual valentine, will be shared with New Yorkers and visitors as part of a synchronized program on over fifteen of the largest digital displays in Times Square.

“I Promise to Love You”, premiered on February 1st and plays throughout the month as part of the “Midnight Moment”, a presentation of the Times Square Advertising Coalition (TSAC) and Times Square Arts. s[edition] helped bring these works to Times Square and they will all be available for sale simultaneously and exclusively at [s]edition.

A Different Kind of Valentine. Pop Culture Heart Art Collages by Paris Artist Eric Liot.

Paris based artist Éric Liot combines items archetypal of our consumer based society with objects and fragments from pop culture. Pieces of film, advertisements, toys, comics and anime are assembled or collaged to ultimately represent a colorful, decadent society, delusional in its mad self-celebration. These hearts are only a small portion of the artist's work.

Liot initially mills out the forms he needs, like wooden puzzle pieces, then he pastes poster fragments onto them, creating from them actual objects in ready-made style or just painting them with acrylic colors. The results are Liot's characteristic collages, which, while somewhat critical of consumerism, first and foremost seduce the observer with their charm and amalgamation of interesting contemporary pictures. Éric Liot was born the 25th of April 1964 in Caen (France). After school, he begins to study architecture, first in the Normandy, then in Paris, at the "Université de la Villette". But he soon realizes that he feels no call at being an architect or even a student. He is weighed down by the narrowness of the academic education as well as by the cold and total anonymity of the Parisian big city jungle. He feels attracted by the faraway and undertakes important travels to Latin America, East and Central Africa as well as Asia. Each time when he comes back to Paris, the decision to be an artist seems clearer. He gives up university and works as a free lance designing posters and furniture. Little by little he realizes that his objects are more and more aesthetical and original, but less functional. The interiorization of this coincides with the real beginning of Liot?s artistic career. First exhibitions soon follow and so the public success. Many solo exhibitions, fair participations, catalogs and articles relate Liot's quick upcoming. Now he has won fame on the Parisian art scene and begins to make a name of himself also abroad, out of the French metropolis. (courtesy of Galerie Raphael 12)

Talk About Rad Art. David Foox Exposes Himself For Love.

As the daughter of a retired radiologist as well as an art-lover, it's as if these unique Valentines were made just for me.

Artist David Foox, shown blow, has created a limited edition of 8 anatomical hearts painted upon actual X-ray films. Priced at $3,000 a piece, they are mounted on a lightbox and measure 20" x 17" x 3" each.

A very different and personal way to give your heart (well, actually David's heart) to someone for Valentine's Day.

How did he do it?
He painted an image of his own heart, using heavy duty acrylics (hand mixed from powder to liquid paint by himself), atop real X-Rays of his own chest.

Talk about your Rad Art! ( sorry, medical joke... Rad is a unit of a measurement of radiation)

The number of pieces (8 in total) are directly related to the amount of radiation David had been told he could withstand in a year and were created specifically for this year's Valentine's Day.

"I hope I don't get sick and need any more X-Rays, cause according to my doctor I am not allowed any more radiation!", says FOOX in talking about this Valentine's Day special series of Hearts.

Each piece comes framed in a backlit box and exudes an eerily personal quality about it. "Imagine having your very own heart painted on top of an X-Ray of your body," continues FOOX in talking about his work.

These 8 unique pieces are already sold out, so you'll have to hope he can withstand the same amount of radiation next year!

David Foox, who goes by FOOX-U on many sites, is the designer behind those fun and fabulous Organ Donor Dolls, as well as many paintings and other projects.

David works in so many various mediums and styles, it was hard to decide to do a post on his Buddha Series, his Scary Money or these. But in light of the fact that Valentine's Day is around the corner, this seemed the most appropos. So be sure to see more work of his on his site.
